Fire & Life Safety Systems

Over 20 years expertise

ROL Group has extensive experience in providing, managing, installing and maintaining Fire and Life safety systems.

These systems are governed by stringent legislative requirements and when you contract ROL Group you can be assured that our work is carried out in line with full regulatory guidelines and the most current version of legislation. Fire and Life safety systems cannot be an area where compromise is even considered. Our Fire and Life systems and essential health and safety provision covers:

  • Emergency lighting,
  • Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
  • Central battery systems
  • Fire alarm testing
  • Fire extinguishers including testing and maintenance
  • Emergency Lighting

Health and Safety legislation requires that all commercial and public premises have an emergency lighting installation compliant with BS 5266-1:2016 and IS 3217:2013.

    • Our electrical teams provide Emergency Lighting Testing services
    • Involves the periodic testing and inspection of all key components
    • Ensures your installation remains compliant and fully functional
    • Includes a functionality test of key switches, batteries, luminaires and control equipment

Our qualified engineers will carry out a range of emergency lighting tests.

Each light is inspected to ensure the bulb is functional and the housing is secure and undamaged; full duration tests are performed to check that lighting units activate correctly in a simulated loss of power situation and remain lit for three hours; and tested areas are inspected to ensure that the emergency lighting and signage provided is sufficient.

On completion we issue a full report detailing each emergency light and details of their condition and any faults found.

  • Ups and Central Battery Systems

ROL Group are a partner of Socomec, a leading manufacturer of integrated power solutions, and are fully conversant with all of their products and applications, designed to ensure availability, control and safety of low voltage electrical networks.  ROL Group commissions Socomec solutions and supply, service and maintain Socomec Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. Our team comprises qualified engineers whose mission is to guarantee the correct design, operation and ongoing maintenance of your UPS system(s).

When a power failure occurs, a UPS switches from utility power to its own power using a Central Battery System. Central battery system based emergency lighting is ideal for medium to large installations. For projects where central control and testing is desirable, a central battery system is a viable and cost effective alternative to self-contained emergency lighting products.

The main advantages of central battery systems over self-contained systems are:

    • Testing and maintenance is much easier to carry out
    • Battery replacement is much quicker and less disruptive
    • Battery life is generally 10 years or more
    • Luminaires can be centrally controlled
    • High light levels can easily be achieved
    • The emergency lighting system can be completely unobtrusive.

The ROL Group team can advise you, recommending and implementing solutions to meet your current and long-term organisational requirements.

  • Fire Alarm Testing

A regularly serviced and operational fire alarm is a legal requirement for most premises and you must ensure that it is regularly maintained in accordance with BS 5839-1:2017and IS 3218:2013.

Your fire alarm system is installed to protect you, your building and physical assets, and all occupants and visitors. Everyone depends on your fire detection systems functioning properly in the event of a fire, acting as an early warning system and enabling safe and timely evacuation.

ROL Group can carry out regular contracted or one-off testing, inspection and repairs to all types of fire detection and alarm systems.  We can provide you with routine bi-annual alarm testing and servicing and offer an emergency 24-hour response call-out service.

Further to all servicing and maintenance, we will issue you with all relevant legal documentation you need to confirm that your fire alarm system has been serviced.

  • Fire Extinguishers

It is critical for fire safety that adequate firefighting equipment and fire extinguishers kept in good working condition are provided in all business premises. They must be installed and properly maintained in accordance with BS 5306 or IS 291:2015, and serviced annually at minimum.

Our team of experts offer advice and assistance as to your ongoing servicing requirements. We provide full and thorough periodic maintenance inspections for all extinguisher types, keeping businesses compliant with government legislation.

Following servicing, results are recorded on the maintenance label attached to each fire extinguisher and replacement or additional extinguishers can be supplied and installed.
